The Brazilian full-back has made his feelings clear over his team-mate's future at Camp Nou and hailed him as the natural successor to talisman Lionel Messi
Dani Alves has urged Barcelona to tie Neymar down to a new deal, insisting they would be "crazy" not to reward the 24-year-old with a contract extension.
The Brazilian forward's current deal expires in 2018, with Goal exclusively reporting on January 29 that the club are on the verge of a sponsorship agreement with Qatar Airways that will allow them to negotiate improved terms with the former Santos star.
Neymar's father revealed on Thursday that Manchester United had launched a €190 million offer for his son in the last summer transfer window, and Alves has now called on Barca to step up their negotiations with the 24-year-old.
He is quoted by ESPN as saying: "Neymar is living his dream. When he was thinking about leaving, I told him to look at how Brazilians have always done better at Barca than at other clubs. Here you must understand football.
"He has two years left on his contract, but if they do not give him a new one, they are crazy. Neymar will succeed Messi, as he is very good. Nobody is capable of doing what he can do."
Alves also discussed his fractious relationship with the media in Spain, having previously ranted at what he labelled "f****** rubbish" coverage in the aftermath of his side's 4-1 win over Espanyol in January.
He added: "I have had disagreements with journalists, but they annoy me so much when they don't talk about football.
"You cannot show such disrespect. For me it is rubbish, not football. Football is something else. They do things to be controversial and sell more. I was wrong to generalise. But those I was referring to are rubbish journalists."
