Newcastle United right-back DeAndre Yedlin admits lifting the Championship trophy was “incredible” - and that “there’s no feeling like it”.

The Magpies clinched the title in dramatic fashion on the final day of the season, with Jack Grealish’s 89th-minute equaliser for Aston Villa against Brighton and Hove Albion seeing the trophy switch hands at the 11th hour.

Yedlin, who initially harboured doubts about stepping down a division to join the Magpies last summer before being convinced of the club’s “Premier League culture”, enjoyed the will celebrations that occurred afterwards.

In an in-depth interview with American magazine Sports Illustrated, Yedlin said of the Magpies’ title win: “The way the whole scenario turned out, it was incredible. There’s no feeling like it.

“I lifted [the trophy], and it was pretty heavy. But it felt real.”

The US international has been holidaying in Las Vegas but he is set to head home to Seattle in the coming days.

While back in his hometown, Yedlin is hoping to training with his former club Seattle Sounders, who won the MLS Cup last year, in order to get back into peak shape ahead of the Premier League campaign.

“I definitely needed a little bit of a break, but I love football,” Yedlin added.

“When I’m gone for a week or two, I start to get the itch to get back onto the field. That’s the way I am.”

The US play Venezuela in a June friendly, with World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico to follow, before taking part in the Gold Cup in July.

Yedlin is likely to miss a large chunk of Newcastle’s pre-season campaign as a result, given that Rafa Benitez’s first-team squad will reconvene on July 3.
