Uvwie Local Government chairman, Hon. Henry Baro, has been suspended indefinitely by the Delta State House of Assembly.

Based on what was gathered, the House reached the decision following ongoing crisis rocking the leadership of Uvwie Central Motor Park of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, which has left several persons injured and two police officers sustained severe gunshots injuries.

As at about 3pm when the news of Baro’s removal reached Effurun near Warri, traders and servicing companies had started closing businesses as fierce-looking irate youths besieged various areas of the city.

Hon. Baro, an ally of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the last local government election in the state.

He has been having running battle with Hon. Evelyn Oboro, candidate for Uvwie/Okpe/Sapele federal constituency at the National Assembly over the outcome of the last election where he was accused of working against the PDP candidate who lost to Hon. Efe Ofobruku of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

There have been rumours that the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, is not happy with the council chairman.

As stated by sources close to Baro, this development could scuttle the relative peace in the city which also play host to highest numbers of industries in the state.

A member of the Delta State House of Assembly who confirmed the suspension, said Baro was suspended over alleged financial recklessness and breach of peace in the council.

The motion for his suspension was moved by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere, and was unanimously adopted by the House to allow investigation into the allegations against him.
