Sierra Leone's Deputy Education Minister Mamoud Tarawali has been charged with rape of a college pupil, police acknowledged.
"He is dealing with counts of rape, wounding, wounding with intent and assault. He has been denied bail and is presently in Pademba highway jail," the Inspector General of Police, Francis Munu mentioned as we speak.
Tarawali was sacked final week after he was accused of rape.
As acknowledged by the police, he was in courtroom on Monday to listen to the costs learn out and denied the accusations.
A grievance was filed by a 24-year-old pupil on the University of Sierra Leone in Freetown who mentioned she was raped by Tarawali in a non-public residence.
Sierra Leone is recovering from years of conflict, throughout which s3xual violence dedicated by fighters in opposition to girls and women was widespread.
