The Argentina international felt his side thoroughly deserved to book their place in the last eight of the Champions League by eliminating Chelsea for the second year in a row
Angel Di Maria says Paris Saint-Germain deserved to book their place in the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Chelsea.
The French champions advanced through to the last eight after securing a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, winning 4-2 on aggregate.
Di Maria made a crucial impact on the night, setting up Zlatan Ibrahimovic for PSG's second to ensure they won both legs of their last-16 tie by the same 2-1 scoreline.
And the former Manchester United man feels PSG were worthy winners after “demonstrating their talent” against Guus Hiddink's Chelsea.
"We're very happy. It's a huge joy," Di Maria said, as quoted by UEFA.com.
"The work of one season has come to fruition. We demonstrated our talent.
"We controlled the game and the result is well deserved."
David Luiz was also quick to hail a fine team performance by PSG, garnished by the individual qualities of the likes of Ibrahimovic and Di Maria.
"I think it was a collective victory because everybody knows to play here against Chelsea is always difficult," said the former Chelsea defender on BT Sport.
"Everybody was using their experience to keep calm. It was a difficult game for us. I think they played very, very well – especially in the first half."
"But we never change our philosophy. We like to play with the ball, with possession to create gaps to score."
Having been spared any more than a gruelling one-hour battle with Diego Costa, who scored in the first half before being taken off injured, Luiz added: "Diego is a fantastic player. Always to play against him is difficult but we played very well and consistently and I am happy with this."
