Northern elites have appealed to the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki (rtd) not to go to court in the face of the harassment he is facing from the Department of State Services, DSS.
Among the Northern elites who pleaded with Dasuki not to take legal actions are Senior Military officials, Emirs, politicians, as well as loyalists of the current administration. They believe that any court process may lead to disclosure of many other issues not fit for public consumption.
They condemned his arrest. As stated by them, the arrest was illegal, pure witch-hunting, ridicule and persecution.
Officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) had last Thursday simultaneously raided Dasuki's residence both in Sokoto and Abuja, over allegations of corruption in relation to defence budget and other alleged abuses of office by the immediate-past service chiefs. The DSS operatives later in the night whisked away the former NSA to one of their facilities in Abuja for interrogation.
Dasuki considered the action to be a treasonable offence, adding that the accusations leveled against him are false and libelous. He however threatened legal action over the issue.
The DSS, had in a statement signed by, Tony Opuiyo stated the agency acted based on credible intelligence linking the immediate past NSA with alleged plans to commit treasonable felony against the Nigerian State.
The DSS also stated Dasuki retired from the Army as a Colonel, and therefore not entitled to have military guards.
The Department of State Services disclosed that items found at Dasuki’s house include seven high assault weapons, several magazines, military related gears, 12 new exotic vehicles, out of which 5 were bullet proofs and which Dasuki failed to produce evidence of ownership.
The prominent personalities who have advised the former NSA to desist from filing a law suit, said: “In his three years as NSA, he had access to all the classified documents you can think of. Documents with facts on Boko Haram; documents on political parties and who their members really are. We are talking about damning revelations.
“Dasuki had access to list of questionable characters who funded these parties. He had access to list all those indicted for corruption and other serious charges over the years among others. Imagine if he divulges such to the whole world.
“Those who have fired the first salvo should not get too comfortable. No one is saying the man should not be probe, but the law must be followed and people’s rights must be respected”, they stated.
