DOLPHINS Basketball Club of Lagos at the weekend, out-dunked the defending champions, First Bank of Lagos 77-72 in the final of the 11th edition of the annual Zenith Bank Women Basketball Championship held at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos to lift the Zenith Bank giant trophy, as well as pocket the N1.2m star prize money at stake. The Elephant Girls' (First Bank Team) went to the bank with N1m for coming second, plus the silver trophy attached to it. The third position went to the four times previous champions, First Deepwater that out-dunked the Inspector General of Police Queens 53-43 in the losers final. The Wale Aboderin Financed team that also remained as the only team that did not lose any match throughout the entire duration of the championship starting from the first and second phases held in Abuja and Ilorin, kept no one in doubt on their readiness to take their Bankers to the cleaners, when they took the fight straight to their opponent's end of the court right from the blast of the referee’s whistle and made the first 3 points before First Bank realized that the game had started. Besides winning the 2015 Zenith Bank Women Basketball championship, Dolphin's playmaker, Juliet Currency in Jersey No.10 also emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the championship thereby dethroning the previous year's MVP award winner, Chioma Udeaja of First Bank. She also emerged as the highest goals scorer. Bucky Damilola of Sunshine Angels of Akure won the best rebounder of the tournament, while Juliet Currency and Okpe Pauline Dolphins, Chioma Udeaja and Nkechi Akashili both of First Bank and Blessing Samuel of the Nigeria Customs emerged as the Best five players of the 11th Zenith Bank Women Basketball Championship.
