Borussia Dortmund just love a sly dig after selling one of their players - this time Manchester United felt the burn after completing the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
In a statement on their website, Dortmund used their opening paragraph to highlight United’s woeful campaign under Louis van Gaal.
It reads: “BVB has complied after intensive discussions the wish of the Armenian national team member, to the new season to join the English Table Fifth last season, Manchester United.”
But that’s not all.
In the last line of their statement, Dortmund were keen to remind everyone that no Champions League football will be played at Old Trafford next season.
“Borussia Dortmund Henrikh Mkhitaryan wishes for the coming season in both the Premier League and in the UEFA Europa League all the best,” read the closing paragraph.
Dortmund have a history of doing this. Having sold Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City at the start of June, the German club delivered another jab to Pep Guardiola’s new team in their official statement with the following:
"The midfielder... will leave the eight-time German champions to join Manchester City, who finished fourth in the Premier League last season.”...
