Drunk Driver Jailed After Fatal Crash Kills Friend
A drunk driver has been jailed for over ten years after his reckless actions led to the death of his friend and passenger during a high-speed crash in Evesham, United Kingdom.
Mariusz Kosinski, aged 37, was observed driving dangerously on the wrong side of the road in Evesham, Worcestershire. He subsequently lost control of his vehicle, causing it to flip onto its roof.
Details of the Fatal Collision
During court proceedings, witnesses reported hearing screeching tyres as Kosinski aggressively overtook numerous vehicles. He was speeding along the road before a fatal attempt to overtake another car. It was at this point that he lost control, causing his BMW to spin violently before it overturned and came to rest on its roof on a nearby grass verge.
Dashcam footage from Kosinski’s vehicle captured his desperate screams in Polish: "F***! He is dead, pal! I killed the dude. F***! Buddy! I killed him!"
Tragically, his passenger and friend, Pawel Czubacki, 40, died at the scene despite the swift response and efforts of the emergency services.
Kosinski had reportedly filmed his speedometer reaching 80mph just prior to the fatal collision on the A46 on 27th July 2024. Distraught witnesses informed police that his black BMW 330d had sped past 14 cars and two motorbikes moments before the devastating crash.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
A subsequent breathalyser test revealed that Kosinski had 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, which is more than double the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Kosinski, from Evesham, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and has been sentenced to ten-and-a-half years in prison. Jailing him at Worcester Crown Court, Judge Nicholas Cartwright stated that Kosinski deliberately ignored road rules and showed a disregard for the safety of other road users while "showing off".
Furthermore, the judge imposed a driving ban on Kosinski for a period of 13 years.

Detective Constable Danny Somner, of West Mercia Police, commented: "We are pleased with today's conviction and sentencing for Kosinski, whose appalling driving resulted in the tragic death of his passenger and endangered numerous other motorists. One might assume this was an isolated lapse of judgement or a moment of madness. However, dashcam footage recovered from Kosinski's vehicle indicated that his usual driving habits were both risky and dangerous. Therefore, it is appropriate that he is now in prison and has received a substantial ban from driving."
