University-of-MaiduguriFive former staff of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) were on Thursday arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before a Maiduguri Federal High Court for allegedly defrauding the hospital for N140 million.

As stated by the EFCC in a statement in Maiduguri at the weekend, the crime was allegedly committed by the defendants between 2008 and 2011 while working in the Finance Department of UMTH.

They were arraigned before the court for fraud, forgery and diversion of the money to the tune of N140 million in five different cases.

The accused include, Mahmud Sambo, former Assistant Director of Finance, Bukar Musty, Chief Accountant Salaries, Haruna Gadangaria, Internal Auditor, Saleh Mohammed and Alkali Bukar Goni.

Bukar Musty and Mahmud Sambo were arraigned on three count charges; while 17 charges were filed against Haruna Gadangaria, Mahmud Sambo and Alhaji Bukar Goni.
