PDP is getting stronger, says Sheriff
Ekiti State Government has accused the Federal Government of feigning ignorance at the continual harassment the state lawmakers by the Department of State Security (DSS). It also alleges that there is a plot to impeach the governor Ayodele Fayose.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Modupe Alade disclosed this at a press conference in Akure, where she narrated the ordeals of the Assembly members and executive members of Fayose-led administration.
As stated by her: “This accounts for my addressing this press conference outside Ekiti State, in other to avoid the Friday March 4, 2016 incident when four lawmakers were forcibly arrested by the DSS on their way to a committee meeting.”
Alade stated that a list of some executive members penned down for further arrest was a common knowledge, but they dispelled it as a mere rumour until someone from the DSS started threatening her on phone since Tuesday.
“Surprisingly, I have been receiving some strange telephone calls on my phone. One of the callers, who identified himself as Paul Okafor with telephone no: +447442364448 stated that I should make myself available in the DSS Office, Abuja soonest.
“Subsequent calls from other anonymous nos. stated that, in my own interest I should make myself available as there is no hiding place for me,” she stated.
The SSG lamented, “this intimidating and overzealous act of the men of the DSS contradicts Section 35 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. One wonders what they are turning democracy to, in Nigeria.”
Alade, who revealed that most of the people intimidate by the DSS were members of Fayose Campaign Organization, mentioned that she had not been officially invited to face any charges, which she affirmed she would gladly honour, if invited officially.
Meanwhile, the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Alli Modu Sheriff has expressed optimism that the party will bounce back in 2019 because it is getting stronger by the day.
Sherriff, who arrived Ado Ekiti on Thursday, was given a rousing reception by the party members and thousand of residents as he and Governor Ayodele Fayose drove round major streets in the town to acknowledge cheers from the people.
The former governor of Borno State stated the leadership of the party are working tirelessly to make it stronger than what it was in 1999.
He disclosed that it was Fayose and some other leaders in the party that entrusted the leadership of the party in his hand even when he was not thinking of assuming the position.
The ex-Borno governor promised to reignite the fortunes of the party back to what it used to be in 1999, when it was a darling party among Nigerians.
