Gunners legend Paul Merson believes the club will be caught short up front in the race for the Premier League title if Olivier Giroud picks up an injury
Paul Merson thinks Arsenal have done "nowhere near enough" in the January transfer window to equip themselves for a Premier League title challenge.
After signing only Petr Cech during the summer, Arsene Wenger brought in midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Basel during January.
And former Gunners midfielder Merson believes the club should have signed a striker and will be left short of options if Olivier Giroud is injured and they are forced to rely on Theo Walcott.
"Mohamed Elneny is nowhere near enough," Merson told Sky Sports. "They definitely needed a defensive midfield player, but also a forward.
"If Olivier Giroud gets injured then can Theo Walcott come in and score enough goals in the last 15 games?"
Wenger indicated on transfer deadline day that he wanted to sign one more player during the January window.
He said: "If possible, I would have been open to one more but there is a rarity of players."
