The emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, Monday ordered that the 14-year-old teenager, Ese Oruru, allegedly abducted by one Yunusa of Kura local government area of Kano State be returned to her family.

The emir asked state Sharia Commission to join hands with office of the Assistant Inspector General of police, zone 1 to commence process of her return.

Dismissing rumour of his complicit in Ese’s kidnap, the emir in an official reaction distanced himself and the Kano emirate council from the purported abduction of Ese Oruru by suspected lover.

Emir Sanusi said: “I have ordered the sharia commission to liaise with the office of Deputy Inspector General of police zone to repatriate and reconcile the teenager with her family immediately.”

Ese Oruru was allegedly abducted in Opolo, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, by one Yunusa, an indigene of Kura local government area of Kano State sometimes in August, 2015.

Yunusa was said to be a longstanding customer of her mother, Mrs. Rose Oruru, a food vendor.

Ese’s kidnap has drawn criticisms from leaps and bounds of the country as different human right bodies have craved her release.

Since August 12 when her parents made the shocking discovery, trips to Kano, the involvement of the police and efforts to get the Emir of Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, at whose palace the girl is believed to be held to resolve the matter and ensure the return of the 14-year-old to her parents have failed.

While her mother was told that Ese had converted to Islam and, therefore, was no longer her daughter, her father was told that his daughter was an 18-year-old adult and not 14, hence she was capable of making decisions for herself.
