England qualified for the last 16 of this year's FIFA World Cup on Sunday, after giving arguably their finest performance in a World Cup since their 3-0 demolition of Denmark in 2002. The Three Lions ran out 6-1 winners and Harry Kane scored a hat trick.

Admittedly, their opponents - World Cup debutants Panama - were dire. Nevertheless, this was precisely the sort of game in which England have struggled in the past, where they had to break down stubbornly defensive opposition.

Not this time - the scoreline is an entirely fair reflection of the gulf in class between the two sides. The Panamians offered a bizarre combination of naivety and cynicism, and at least two of their players were fortunate to avoid red cards. If any one of them happens to be reading this, they'd be best advised to look away now.

As for England, they'll obviously have far sterner tests in this tournament - not least in their next match against Belgium, which is effectively a playoff for first place in the group. Nevertheless, several of England's players gave arguably their most impressive international displays to date.

Here's how all the players rated.

1. England: Goalkeeper & Defenders

Jordan Pickford 7/10 - Barely troubled, but he was a reassuring presence at the back. Passing and kicking were more than adequate, and he made a fine save. No chance with Panama's goal.

Kieran Trippier 8/10 - Not quite a new David Beckham, but his deliveries from set pieces were impeccable and led to three of England's six goals. A little questionable defensively at times, but he could prove crucial for England's chances this summer.

Kyle Walker 8/10 - Made a brilliant goal-saving clearance from one of Panama's few threatening attacks. Arguably his most assured display for England to date.

John Stones 9/10 - Confident and tidy on the ball, solid in defence, and scored two fine headers from free kicks. Highly impressive.

Harry Maguire 6/10 - Sloppy on the ball at times and reacted angrily to Panama's roughhouse tactics. Also at fault for Panama's goal. Solid otherwise.

Ashley Young 6/10 - Was given a torrid time in the early stages, which doesn't bode well for the Belgium game. Like Maguire, his positioning was poor for Panama's goal. Largely untroubled, though.

2. England: Midfielders

Jordan Henderson 8/10 - Gave surely his finest performance in an England shirt so far. Tireless, strong defensively, utterly dependable with his passing, and unlucky not to score with a fine volley.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek 7/10 - Mostly rather quiet after a scintillating start. Nevertheless, he played his part in a highly efficient midfield trio.

Jesse Lingard 9/10 - Quite superb. Targeted for extremely rough treatment by Panama, but still won a penalty and scored a fantastic long range goal. Arguably England's best player.

3. England: Forwards

Raheem Sterling 5/10 - The only significant negative of England's display. Played a fine one-two with Lingard for the latter's goal, but was subdued otherwise.

Harry Kane 8/10 - Struggled a little from open play, as he was tightly marked. However, his two penalties were brilliant, and his third goal - though fortuitous - was a just reward for his persistence.

4. England: Substitutes

Jamie Vardy 5/10 - Made little impact after replacing Kane, but the match was already over as a contest by then. He made a good burst forward on the right but played in a poor cross.

Fabian Delph 5/10 - Came on for Lingard. No killer contributions, but no crass errors either.

Danny Rose 5/10 - Unspectacular but untroubled after replacing Kieran Trippier.

5. Panama: Goalkeeper & Defenders

Jaime Penedo 5/10 - Had no chance with any of England's six goals. Didn't deserve to be on the wrong end of such a heavy defeat.

Michael Murillo 3/10 - Physical and cynical, not least in his treatment of Lingard. As with his fellow defenders, he'll be desperately disappointed to have conceded so many goals from set pieces.

Roman Torres 3/10 - Did himself no credit at all with his petulant attitude. Also failed utterly to marshall his defence. Lucky not to be booked for his persistent backchat.

Fidel Escobar 3/10 - Gave away a stupid penalty by wrestling with Lingard. Richly deserved his booking.

Erick Davis 3/10 - No better than his defensive colleagues. Strange to think that this same defence frustrated Belgium for an entire half.

6. Panama: Midfielders

Edgar Barcenas 5/10 - Threatened sporadically, but was generally contained with relative ease.

Gabriel Gomez 4/10 - Like his colleagues, he simply couldn't cope with England's organisation and intelligent movement.

Armando Cooper 3/10 - It's a mystery that he wasn't dismissed for swinging his elbow into Maguire's face. Ineffectual.

Anibal Godoy 3/10 - Gave away a stupid penalty by wrestling with Harry Kane. Obviously out of his depth at this level.

Jose Luis Rodriguez 7/10 - The only member of the Panama starting lineup to acquit himself well. Busy, skilful and unlucky to be surrounded by such mediocrity.

7. Panama: Forward

Blas Perez 2/10 - Was he actually on the pitch? Barely noticeable for 90 minutes.

He has been an excellent and prolific servant for his country, but England's defence barely gave him a sniff on Sunday. Still, he'll be desperately disappointed that he didn't at least cause some problems for his more illustrious opponents.

8. Panama: Substitutes

Ricardo Avila 6/10 - Created Panama's consolation goal with a fine delivery into the England penalty area.

Felipe Baloy 6/10 - Scored a clinical goal from a set piece, though it was no more than a consolation.

Abdiel Arroyo 4/10 - Came on far too late to make any impact of note.
