USA youngster Christian Pulisic says England’s rumoured interest in Jurgen Klinsmann made complete sense given what he has achieved across the pond.

, although former Germany international Klinsmann was the initial favourite to replace Roy Hodgson.

Those reports sparked derision in some quarters, with Klinsmann’s detractors pointing to his tactical shortcomings while in charge of Bayern Munich, Germany and currently with the US.

But Pulisic says he has “turned around” the US national side, and believes England are looking to do likewise.

“They’ve seen how much he’s turned our country around and of course England would like to do the same, but we’ll see how that goes,” he told Goal.

Pulisic, who at just 17 years old has been tipped to lead the US into a new era, was part the squad that reached the semi-finals of the Copa America, held in the States, earlier this summer.

And he says their performance against South America’s biggest nations is proof of their progress.

“We have a lot of great young players in the US, our coach is doing a really good job and I think we’re improving every year and I think other people are starting to see that.”

Pulisic played half an hour for Borussia Dortmund as the German side beat Manchester United 4-1 in the International Champions Cup in Shanghai on Friday.

"First of all Man Utd are a very good team so they challenged us today and I thought that we looked really good out on the pitch today, so we’re excited for what’s to come.

He managed a handful of largely substitute appearances in the second half of last season, but says he is working towards regular football at Signal Iduna Park.

“I want to spend as many minutes on the pitch as I can, so we’ll see how it goes,” he added. “I’m just trying to keep working hard to try to earn my spot.

Dortmund, who kicked off their pre-season preparations earlier than United, looked comfortable as they swept past Jose Mourinho’s men in the sapping heat of Shanghai.

And Pulisic is now setting his sights on Manchester City, who provide the opposition next week in Shenzhen.

“First of  all Man U is a very good team so they challenged us today and I thought that we looked really good out on the pitch today, so we’re excited for what’s to come.

“It’s great to have these tests. Now we’re going to play against Man City, another very good English team, so we’ll see how we match up against them, and I’m looking forward to it.”
