Rt. Hon. Dennis Agbo, the representative for Igbo-Eze North/Udenu in the House of Representatives, has left the Labour Party (LP) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Known as 'Mr. Integrity,' Agbo, who has served two terms, pointed to Governor Peter Mbah's achievements, ongoing issues within the LP, and the influence of his constituents as factors influencing his choice.
“The performance of the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, since his inauguration has been nothing short of outstanding,” Agbo said in a statement on Wednesday.
“I have had the privilege of supporting and contributing to the administration’s commitment to moving the state forward.”
He characterized the ongoing rift within the LP as unsustainable and emphasized the importance of aligning politically with the state government to better serve his constituents.
“In deference to the popular wishes of the highly enterprising people of Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, I have decided to resign my membership of the Labour Party and return to the PDP,” he said.
Agbo emphasized that collaborating with Governor Mbah on the same political platform would foster the necessary synergy to boost development in both the constituency and the entire state.
A formal event to celebrate his return to the PDP is set for Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the PDP State Secretariat in GRA, Enugu.
Agbo, who previously represented the PDP in the 8th National Assembly from 2015 to 2019, was re-elected in 2023 under the LP banner but lost his position after a tribunal mandated a rerun in certain polling units. Although his PDP rival was momentarily declared the winner, Agbo successfully contested the outcome and regained his seat in 2024.
