The immediate past Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Usman, on Tuesday was given six hours to return two Maces carted away from the House after his impeachment two weeks ago.
The House at a plenary on Tuesday directed the Clerk, Mohammed Kagara and Sergeant-at-arm, Ibrahim Abubakar Agaie, to ensure that the two maces are returned to the assembly complex.
Usman was accused of being in possession of the Maces to stall moves to impeach him on May 4.
The matter came up when Hon. Jibrin Akwanu, a member representing Agaie constituency, brought to the notice of the house that two of the three maces in the Assembly were missing and asked the Sergeant-at-arms to explain their whereabout.
The Sergeant-at-arm said he received a phone call from the ex-Speaker at about 1:15am on May 5, directing him to go with a lawmaker to the assembly complex and carry the Mace.
The Speaker at a press briefing admitted that he was in possession of the Maces.
