The Spaniard was denied a penalty after he was bodychecked by Laurent Koscielny but admits he is no longer surprised that he is not given decisions in his favour

Cesc Fabregas has hit out at referee Mark Clattenburg after he was denied a penalty in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

The Spaniard was bodychecked by Laurent Koscielny inside the Arsenal area but Clattenburg, who had sent off Per Mertesacker for a last-man challenge on Diego Costa in the first half, opted not to award a penalty.

Penalty decisions were a frequent talking point for Chelsea last season as Fabregas was denied a decisions away to Southampton and against Arsenal, while Diego Costa, Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill were also not awarded spot-kicks despite being fairly clear-cut.
When asked if he felt he deserved a penalty against Arsenal, Fabregas told Sky Sports: “In my opinion, yes. But the referee said no, what can I do?

“It’s not the first time, it’s not the second, it’s not the third that I was denied a penalty. So I’m not surprised any more.

“Yes, really. Counting last year. Maybe it’s a coincidence.”
