The house at 16 Mojisola Street, Ifako, Agege, Lagos state
At least 20 accommodation seekers have been duped by a yet-to-be-identified man, who paraded himself as the landlord of a house at 16 Mojisola Street, Ifako, Agege area of Lagos state.
One of the victims (name withheld) said on Monday that she got to know that she had been defrauded barely one week after paying for the apartment.
Famzn News gathered from her that the ”landlord” collected N220,000 from her under the pretext of renting out a mini-flat apartment on Tuesday, 17 July, 2018.
The transaction, unbeknownst to the ”landlord” and his ”engineer”, was recorded by the payer.
Narrating what happened, she said some of them paid N300,000; N220,000; and N180,000 one-year rent, depending on the type of apartment.
”A corps member got the information of the house from another “corps member” who gave him the number of the the agent,” one of the ladies told a News Media a News Media correspondent.
”I paid on the 17th of July, 2018, a sum of N220,000 for a mini apartment in cash to the landlord in the video and his engineer. The agent was also aware of this transaction.
”We were asked to come get our keys on the 28th [of July] but we decided it was too far and told the agent we needed to move in sooner.
”We wanted to go to the house on Wednesday but I chose to go today and so we went.
”Only to meet people in front of the compound who claimed they too had paid for the apartment and they had their receipt to show for it.

”There were also people already occupying the house who were given keys on Saturday
”Some people even paid since January while the house was under construction.
”In essence, they collected money for a single apartment from several people. Repeating the process with all the apartments. And now they are no where to be found.”
The victims said they had reported the fraud at the Pen Cinema Police station, Agege.
Efforts by a News Media a News Media correspondent to reach police officials were unsuccessful as at the time of writing this report.
