Following comments made by the British Prime Minister, David Cameron that Nigeria is a “fantastically corrupt” country, President Muhammadu Buhari says Cameron stated it out of honesty.
Buhari stated this in an interview with Cable News network, CNN.
Recall that Cameron while briefing the Queen of England, Elizabeth 11, Tuesday, after a cabinet meeting ahead of the Anti-Corruption summit where the Nigerian president is billed to give a keynote address on Thursday, tagged Nigeria and Afghanistan as “fantastically corrupt” nations.
Also, Buhari in a brief interaction with Sky News’ Diplomatic Editor, Dominic Waghorn, had on Wednesday stated Nigeria was fantastically corrupt when he was asked.
Buhari, however, told CNN on Thursday that, “I think he (Cameron) is being honest about it.
“He is talking about what he knows about the two of us, Afghanistan and Nigeria and by what we are doing in Nigeria by the day.
“I don’t think you can fault him. I hope he did not address the press.
“He stated it privately and somehow we got to know it.”
Speaking further during the interview, the president stated his main focus is to fight corruption and not to merely talk about it.
On the missing Chibok girls, President Muhammadu Buhari said, “I have not seen the clip that was released by CNN last month that showed some of the girls in hiding.
“Even if I had seen the clip, I would not show it to the parents of the missing Chibok girls.
“How can we show it to them when we don’t know where they are?
“If we know where they are then we can organize to secure them. If they are divided into 5, 10 groups all over the region, there’s no way we can spontaneously and simultaneously attack all those locations.
“The important thing is to get them alive,” Buhari added.
