The governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, is to swear-in the 16 newly elected local government chairmen today.

The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Kayode Bamisile (rtd) had declared all the state ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidates winners of the poll in all the 16 local governments and 177 wards across the state.

A statement signed by the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi and made available to journalists yesterday in Ado Ekiti, said that the inauguration would come up at the governor’s office in the state capital, shortly after the presentation of certificate of return by the state independent electoral commission.

Meanwhile, Governor Fayose has described the successful conduct of the council election as a promise kept to the people of the state.

Speaking yesterday in Afao-Ekiti, the governor said that he was glad that Ekiti was the first state in the South-West geo-political zone to conduct local government election in the last few years.

Describing the use of caretaker committees to run local government system as an aberration, Fayose said the hallmark of a genuine democrat was allowing people to express their choice on who governs them.

Also, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Kola Oluwawole, has praised the electorate in the state for conducting themselves peacefully during Saturday local government poll.

In a statement by his special assistant (media), Stephen Gbadamosi, in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Oluwawole noted that the conduct of the people during the exercise had shown that they were in tandem with the efforts of the Ayo Fayose-led administration to entrench democracy in the state.
