The letter, from a Liverpool fan identified as 'Barry', read: "I wanted to say thank you to the FC Augsburg supporters and the club for making Liverpool supporters so welcome [last Thursday].
"I talked to a lot of Augsburg supporters before the match and it was really great to meet them.
"Also, the club playing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' before the match was a generous gesture and very much appreciated and the atmosphere all night was terrific."
Augsburg, in posting the letter online, said: "We're always happy to receive letters like this from visiting fans. It was great to have our Liverpool FC friends in Augsburg."
The Augsburg fans and players evidently enjoyed their trip to Liverpool, even making one cheeky attempt to commandeer the city's most famous sons.

Ultimately the Augsburg fans return to Germany disappointed with the result on the pitch, as they lost 1-0 on the night and on aggregate. But as Barry rightly points out, both club and supporters have made a distinctly classy impression.
Football so often gets caught up in negativity, this writer has no shame in getting a little mushy over a rare glimpse of the positive bonds that all football fans share.
