Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced a new safety campaign that covers certain examples of the Ram 1500 pickup trucks.

The recall was announced after an investigation led by the company, which determined that a small group of modules that control the electric power steering (EPS) systems may have been contaminated during the assembly process.

If this is the case, then steering will become more difficult because of the intermittent or complete loss of power steering assist. However, if the EPS will completely fails, the steering capability remains.

There are an estimated 442 units affected in the United States, along with an additional 59 in Canada, 7 in Mexico and 6 outside the NAFTA region, from the 2015-2015 model years. Owners will be contacted by FCA and will be advised when they may schedule service. The necessary repairs/replacements will be performed free of charge.

FCA's latest recall campaign comes right after a possible malfunction with the brakes was discovered on certain Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs, which affects nearly 15,000 units from the 2016 MY.
