AjegunlePeace is yet to return to Ajegunle one week after Rasheed Olanrewaju, a labourer at Wharf was killed and two others injured when Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) members and hoodlums clashed last week Tuesday.

Many buildings were also torched during the incident after a fight broke out over sharing of money (Owo Omo Onile) collected from a land developer in the area.

Residents of Layinka Street are still living in fear of reprisal attacks as two warring groups from neighbouring streets have turned the axis in Ajegunle into a battlefield.

The fight between a gang popularly called Campus Boys and some youths in Iyalode, is escalating daily in spite of police presence in the area.

A resident, Mr. Moshood Oshunfurewa, told The Guardian that many of the unemployed youths in the area take delight in killing and constituting themselves into a nuisance in the society.

“Whenever they begin their fight, residents would not be able to move freely for hours. One will be caught between hiding at home or staying away from the neighbourhood while these groups openly display their madness on the street in broad daylight, stabbing each other with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

“It is so serious that the situation has gone beyond what the four policemen stationed here can curtail. How can four policemen, even when fully armed take down over 300 deadly youths?” he asked.

Another resident, Mr. Abiemuka Michael, expressed dismay at the conduct of the policemen stationed in the area to maintain the peace. “For the past three days, they have abandoned their primary assignment and instead started extorting money from commercial motorcyclists.Guardian
