The Turkish Airlines Euroleague's first playoff qualifier has been hit with bad news as Fenerbahce Ulker announced Monday that high-flying big man Jan Vesely will be out of action at least six weeks with an Achilles' tendon injury. Vesely (2.10 meters, 25 years old) suffered the injury shortly after halftime of the team's domestic league loss to Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir on Sunday. The club has subsequently confirmed that the Euroleague's MVP for January will miss the rest of the Top 16 and the playoffs, which are scheduled to be played from April 12 to 26. Vesely has started in 16 of the 21 games this season for Fenerbahce, averaging 12 points, 7 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He ranks third among all Euroleague players in offensive rebounds (32) and in total rebounds (86) during the Top 16. Fenerbahce currently has the best Top 16 record, 10-1, and the best overall record in the Euroleague, 18-3 this season.
