The National Assembly has approved an N4.87 billion budget for the National Intelligence Agency to follow, intercept, and monitor mobile phone conversations and texts, including Thuraya and WhatsApp.

The sum is included in the N895.8 billion supplementary budget proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) the previous month and approved by both chambers of the federal parliament the previous week after being increased by around N87 billion.

According to the supplementary budget, the NIA will spend N2,938,650,000 on the Thuraya interception solution and N1,931,700,000 on the WhatsApp interception solution.
