US-based Electric GT company brought a crinkled Ferrari 308 GTS back to life by dropping a fully electric powertrain in place of its gasoline-fueled V8. The unusual conversion resulted into the β€˜world’s first electric Ferrari’, according to the owner, after installing three electric motors in the place of the V8, good enough for 275 electric hp or 415 β€˜Gas-equivalent’ horses. More importantly torque is now rated at a combined 330lb ft (447Nm).

The project started with a dead 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS, written-off after a fire in its engine bay. After recycling the parts for other Ferraris that might need them, Electric GT restored the car, pairing the electric motors with a five-speed G50 gearbox sourced from a Porsche. That’s right; this electric Ferrari is also a manual one.

The electric juice comes from a 28.5kWh battery pack, with the company currently in the process of developing a larger 75 kWh option. The driving range now sits between 80 and 100 miles (about 130-160km), which is not a long distance but the future option of the bigger battery should fix that.

Despite being a Ferrari robbed of its soundtrack, this build is a prime example of recycling done right. And if you have second thoughts on it, just remind yourself that this beautiful car would otherwise be crashed or even sit in a graveyard forever alone and abandoned.
