The very first 2017 Acura NSX has sold for an eye-watering price Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale auction.

The winner bidder who paid $1.2 million was Rick Hendrick. He is the owner of Hendrick Motorsports and, in recent times, has also purchased the first 2012 Camaro ZL1 at auction, first 2014 Corvette Stingray and the last US-spec BMW M5 30 Jahre.

Hendrick has been awarded the right to custom order the new addition to his prized collection before it is delivered to him afterwards this year. All the proceeds of the auction will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Camp Southern Ground.

Discussing the auction, vice president and general manager of Acura, John Ikeda said: β€œIt was amazing to witness such generosity of spirit and passion for the new NSX. Mr. Hendrick will have the great satisfaction of owning and driving the very first next-generation NSX, and making a difference in the lives of thousands of children."

Even though customer deliveries of the new NSX have yet to commence, it's attracted huge amounts of attention since being unveiled at Detroit in 2015 and for good reason. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged V6 engine combined with three electric motors, resulting in a sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) of just 3 seconds.
