A former chairman of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), Justice Samuel Gégé Jaho (Rtd) is dead. As stated by a statement issued by the family of Owhrode in Udu Local Government Area of the state, Jaho died on April 15 at the age of 75 after a brief illness. The late Justice Jaho is survived by a wife, Mrs. Rebecca kegbru Jaho, 16 children, many grand-children and a great grand-son. “Late Hon. Justice Jaho served society in several positions such as primary school Teacher/Headmaster, Tutor at Urhobo College and later staff of Shell Petroleum and Development Company, SPDC. “Upon his graduation from the prestigious University of Lagos in 1972 and subsequent call to bar in 1973, Hon Justice Jaho joined the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and was the Head of the Legal Department in Warri Port between 1975 and 1982,” the statement read. The late Jaho transferred his services from NPA to the Judicial Service Commission in the defunct Bendel State in 1982 as a Chief Magistrate, adding that he was made Chief Registrar of the Delta State Judiciary before his appointment as a Judge of the Delta State High court in 1996, reads the statement. He retired meritoriously from the service upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 years on June 5, 2004 before his appointment as chairman of DSIEC in 2006 by former Governor James Ibori. The late Justice Jaho served as DSIEC chairman till 2011,noting that the deceased was “the pioneer Registrar of the Ughelli Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion as well as serving as Chancellor.”
