Zlatan Ibrahimovic congratulated former club Milan after they defeated rivals Juventus on penalties to win the Supercoppa Italiana on Friday.

Milan fell behind to a goal from Giorgio Chiellini but hit back 20 minutes later through Giacomo Bonaventura.

And the Rossoneri clinched the cup following Chelsea loanee Mario Pasalic's winning penalty after highly-rated goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma denied Paulo Dybala from the spot.

It was Milan's first piece of silverware since winning the same trophy in 2011 - back when Ibrahimovic plied his trade at the San Siro.

And it appears the 35-year-old still holds the Italian giants close to his heart after applauding Milan on getting the better of Juve, another one of his former clubs.

Milan's general manager Adriano Galliani revealed Ibrahimovic said after the match: “Congratulations, forza Milan!”

Ibrahimovic helped Milan win the 2010-11 Serie A title before leaving to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2012, where he went on to enjoy more success in the French capital.

The striker moved to Manchester United last summer and has impressed during his maiden campaign at Old Trafford, having scored 16 goals in all competitions so far this term.
