A 97 -year-old man was recently kidnapped in Ogun State. However, he has been freed as one of the kidnappers, Emeka Obi, 35, ran out of luck. Emeka was arrested by police, and on interrogation, he confessed to the act and that he had invested and reaped so much from ficing and supplying weapons to other kidnapping syndicates in Lagos and Ogun states.
Obi, an indigene of Anambra State, and three others who allegedly abducted the 97-year-old man, Pa Amos Iposola Samaye, were arrested by the police in Ogun State.
Based on what was gathered, prior to Pa Amos' abduction, he lived with his grandson in Isire village, near Owu-Ikuwa, Ogbere, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The arrest occurred following a distress call from one Mr. Vincent Ayodele Dosumu, a resident Isire village.
Investigation revealed that based on this information, anti-robbery policemen attached to Ogbere Station led by the DPO and supported by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), swiftly swung into action, to rescue the old man and arrest the suspects.
Following intense intelligence networking, the detectives were able to apprehend Emeka Obi, who resides in Ikotun, a Lagos suburb, at a location where he wanted to collect the N2 million ransom they had demanded from the family of the victim.
He led the detectives to a forest, Aye, along Ijebu Ode /Benin Expressway, where the nonagenarian was eventually found and rescued.
It was further learnt that Obi led the SARS detectives to their hideout in J4 Area in Ogbere where two other suspects, Oluyeye Akintunde and Samuel Adewumi were arrested.
A Berretta pistol, a locally made single barrel short gun, two live cartridges and assorted charms were recovered from the suspects.
The 35-year-old man admitted that he worked for several kidnap syndicates, operating between Lagos and Ogun states. As stated by him, “I usually invest in ficing abduction trade. Also, I supply weapons to several syndicates, as these are my only sources of livelihood I usually get"
