The Automobile Club de l'Ouest, the organizers of the Le Mans 24 Hours, have announced that four Ford GTs will be fielded in this year's race.

The new GTs appearance at the 2016 Le Mans will of course come exactly 50 years after the original GT claimed a famous 1-2-3 victory. While not competing in the class-leading LMP1 category for 2016, all four examples from Ford Chip Ganassi Racing will hope to clean-sweep the GTE Pro class.

Two of the four examples will be those running the ongoing FIA World Endurance Championship, number #66 and #67, while the other two Ford GTs entered by Ford Chip Ganassi Racing will come from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and be numbered #68 and #69.

According to Ford Performance global director Dave Pericak “It was great to see all four Ford GTs up there on the Le Mans entry list today. Newcomers are by no means guaranteed an entry, whatever their history or ambitions, so we thank the ACO for giving Ford the opportunity for a four car assault in June.”

Chip Ganassi extended on this by saying “I’m very happy that we can run all four Ford GTs at Le Mans. It will be a big challenge for us however, one we're thrilled to undertake. We've prepared well and can't wait to get the Ford GTs onto the track there and show everyone what they can do.”
