Indications emerged last night that the on-going party congress might ignite fresh crisis in the Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The followed an alleged directive by some stakeholders of the party, that serving local council chairmen should be allowed to return.
Some of those affected are said to have held offices in the last 16 years, adding that allowing them to continue to occupy such positions would amount to putting the aspirations of others at bay.
But Publicity Secretary of the party, Okey Eze, denied any such plan. He stated that the congress of the party, which started last weekend with election of ward executives, has progressed smoothly.
He added however, that those complaining “are minority persons who will only identify with the party when there are vacant positions.”
He said: “We don’t have problem with mainstream members of the party, they understand our workings”.
