Sinec joining Burnley in 2011, Ben Mee has developed to become one of the Premier League's finest homegrown defenders.

However, with Mee partnering full England internationals James Tarkowski and Micheal Keane in recent seasons, it is rumoured he may finally want to move on from Turf Moor in order to further his own aspirations of gracing the national team himself.

With the stand-in captain yet to sign a new deal with the Clarets after months of negotiations it's looking likely the defender will see out his contract.

Here are potential replacements for the 28-year-old.

1. Craig Dawson (West Brom)

The relegated West Brom man is eager to return to the Premier League immediately with a number of clubs supposedly vying for his signature.

West Ham and Burnley have both been keen suitors of the defender, with the latter having an offer in the region of £40m for Dawson and Jay Rodriguez rejected by the Midlands club. Dawson has reportedly handed in a transfer request to West Brom as he looks to force a move back to the top flight.

The English centre-back would suite Sean Dyche's style of play, as a physical defender who likes to do everything in their power to stop the ball finding their own net. Dawson would match the old fashion centre-half characteristics Dyche himself used to play as.

Dawson, although not the cheapest, would be a great acquisition for the Clarets with plenty of experience as they look for additions for a potential season in the Europa League.

2. Alfie Mawson (Swansea City)

Another recently relegated centre-back that will probably find himself in the Premier League come August is Alfie Mawson.

The 24-year-old has now played two consecutive seasons in the Premier League with the Swans, and despite the Welsh club going down, Mawson himself has had a fine season on the pitch.

A ball playing centre-half could be just what Burnley need, as Sean Dyche continues to evolve this Clarets side which can now be seen as an established Premier League club for the first time.

With neat footballers Steven Defour and Jack Cork in midfield, Mawson could fit straight into the system as they look to play football out from the back.

3. Lewis Dunk (Brighton & Hove Albion)

After a successful season with Brighton in the Premier League, Lewis Dunk has established himself as a good asset for any established Premier League side.

Being an ever-present in a Brighton side which defied the odds of staying up is an achievement in itself, but Dunk has shown himself to be a composed ball playing defender which many teams would desire.

Similar to Mawson, Dunk hasn't been in the Premier League all too long, but they can all look to follow in the success of Harry Maguire and Burnley would definitely give Dunk the platform to achieve that.

With a Europa League campaign becoming for the Clarets, Dunk might be a good asset and replacement for Mee as the 26-year-old still has a lot of time to improve and mould into  Dyche's system

4. Conor Coady (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Recently promoted from the Championship, Conor Coady has had a very good season with Wolves as he plays in the sweeper.

Coady likes to play the role of collecting the ball deep and offloading it onto the full-backs to drive the team forward as he showed on numerous occasions in Wolves 3-5-2 formation last season.

Captain for Wolves, Coady confidently shows his leadership qualities throughout games, organising his teammates and working hard for the side. This is the type of player Dyche would like in his team as you could see it as a straight swap for Mee, who plays a great leader for the Clarets.

Unlikely to leave Wolves as he gears up for his first season in the Premier League, he is merely an option that Dyche can think about if Mee does depart.

5. James Tomkins (West Ham United)

Perhaps a distant option for the Clarets, though the defender was linked with a move to Turf Moor once. Tompkins boasts power and aerial ability as he has marshalled Crystal Palace's defence in recent years.

The 29-year-old is likely to be past his best at this stage, but the experience that the no nonsense defender has would be valuable to a Burnley side which could be taking on European opposition over the coming season.

The big defender is a threat from set-pieces and could be a cheaper option for Dyche as he nears the end of his career at the top flight.
