Subaru’s parent company board of directors announced the replacement of their Fuji Heavy Industries name with the Subaru Corporation, in effect from April 1, 2017.
Their decision will be subject to shareholder approval at the 85th General Meeting scheduled for June 28.

Fuji Heavy Industries’ origins date back in 1917 with the foundation of the Aircraft Research Laboratory which later became known as Nakajima Aircraft. The company established its current name in 1953 after going through a number of reorganizations, with its businesses ranging from aerospace and industrial products to its main sector which is of course Subaru.

The renaming of the company is part of FHI’s plan to enhance the Subaru brand name at its centennial anniversary and achieve greater growth for Subaru in both the automotive and aerospace industries.

The company said in their statement: “Under our new company name, we will continue to seek sustainable growth by offering Subaru’s distinctive value of ‘Enjoyment and Peace of Mind’ to customers worldwide, pursuant to our management philosophy of aiming to be a compelling company with a strong market presence built upon its customer-first principle.”
