Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations Professor Ibrahim Gambari says that the country is at a crossroads based on recent events.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs made this known while delivering the 4th annual lecture of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) titled “Broadcasting and Nigeria’s Ethno-Cultural and Religious Divide: Bridging the Gap.”
As stated by him, Nigeria had never been this divided in her history.
Gambari stated that the real cause of division in Nigeria is not ethnicity, culture or religion but the perpetration of inequality along class and regional lines.
“Peaceful and credible 2015 elections were the outcomes of combined efforts of stakeholders, including civil society organizations, individuals and the international community,” he said.
“These forces must again be mobilised once more to build on the gains of the last general elections.”
He also stated that “the 2019 elections must be the game changer!.”
