Gateshead manager Steve Watson praised new boy Ben Fox after the Burton Albion loanee had an impressive debut at Chester.
Three goals inside 10 minutes either side of half-time saw the Heed triumph 3-1 at the Deva Stadium.
Paddy McLaughlin’s second goal of the week got the ball rolling in the 45th minute, a lead doubled within a minute.
Jordan Burrow’s 10th goal of the season set up another profitable away day, and Jordan Preston added an impressive third after the break.
Tom White pulled a goal back midway through the second period but the struggling Blues didn’t threaten a comeback.

Instead Gateshead saw the game out to stretch their unbeaten away record to seven games.
They have scored eight goals in their last three games and now have three home games in eight days. Woking are on Tyneside tomorrow followed by Maidstone United at the weekend and fourth-top Wrexham the follow Tuesday.
It is a window of opportunity for the Heed, who have struggled for wins on home soil, with their away displays much better.
Fox, 20 next month, signed for Gateshead the day before the Chester game along with Newcastle United teenager Lewis McNall.
The striker was an unused substitute on Saturday, and Watson was confident both will contribute over the last three months of the campaign.
Watson said: “Ben Fox on his debut was magnificent. He’s got legs, he’s got drive and can take the ball forward.
Listen to Steve Watson's verdict
“He’s going to be a great addition as will Lewis. In an ideal world we’d have given him some game time on Saturday.
“But when Chester got a goal back we had to stop their momentum a little bit by bringing Fraser Kerr on.
“It’s great to have someone of his quality and composure to come on and shore it all up, though that can’t be an invitation to sit back.”
McLaughlin put Gateshead in front following a short corner and then Burrow finished off a surging run by Wes York.
Preston’s superb curler into the top corner from outside the box made the game safe before White scored a consolation goal.
“If we had been 5-0 up by the hour mark it would not have been unfair on us, and we need to build on this performance.”
