The German authorities is about to deport near 30,000 Nigerians looking for asylum in Germany, the Nigerian authorities has revealed.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs, Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa disclosed this at a programme; βDeveloping a mixed migration strategy for UNHCR Nigeriaβ in Abuja on Tuesday.
βGermany said it has about 25,000 to 30,000 Nigerians seeking asylum and they canβt guarantee they will get it. So, there is every possibilities that they will be returned to Nigeria,β she mentioned.
As said by her, the explanations for asylum by the Nigerians weren't real as βsome who are from the East and West are saying they are running away from Boko Haram while some others say they are gays and were having challenges expressing themselves in Nigeria.β
The SSA to the President mentioned a date has not but been set for the deportation of the asylum looking for Nigerians.
βGermany has set up a team working with the ministry of foreign affairs to see how the whole process [of deportation] can be made easier,β she added.
While noting that Germany is providing extra scholarships and simpler course of of normal migration for Nigerians, she appealed to younger Nigerians to be careful for these alternatives and benefit from them.
βWe are looking at the option of reverse migration also where you can actually stay in your country and enjoy everything you are migrating abroad to get,β Hon. Dabiri Erewa added.
She famous that irregular migration was now not working because the overseas nations have been additionally having their very own challenges now.
She mentioned the federal government was already doing a lot to sort out the problems which can be encouraging irregular migration, including that βwe are fighting corruption, insecurity and trying to revive the economy.β
