Gilberto Silva has left his role as technical director at Panathinaikos after just seven months in the job.
The Brazilian World Cup winner joined the Greens on a three-year contract in May after previously playing for the Greek side from 2008 to 2011.
Panathinaikos president Yannis Alafouzos offered Gilberto an ambassadorial role in a bid to keep him at the club but he rejected the offer.
Speaking in October, the 40-year-old revealed that being a player was much easier than his position as technical director.
Gilberto began his career with America Mineiro in 1997 and was also part of the Arsenal 'Invincibles' side which went a season unbeaten in 2004.
