Tuesday night's Coupe de France clash between Sochaux and PSG produced one of this week's stranger sights as Brazilian full-back Dani Alves was forced to become a makeshift goalkeeper for the Parisians.
Whilst an outfield star filling in between the sticks is certainly rare, it is not altogether unheard of. Let's take a look...
5. John Terry
Chelsea legend John Terry was forced to wear the gloves in unfortunate circumstances at the Madejski Stadium in October 2006.
Both Petr Cech and substitute 'keeper Carlo Cudicini were stretchered off during the game after serious clashes to the head meaning JT - typically prepared to do anything for the Chelsea cause - stepped up admirably to preserve the Blues' clean sheet in a 1-0 win.
4. Phil Jagielka
Sheffield United's only Premier League season to date produced a memorable victory against Arsenal at Bramall Lane back in December 2006 thanks in no small part to Phil Jagielka.
With the Blades leading 1-0 just past the hour mark, goalkeeper Paddy Kenny pulled up with a muscle injury meaning - with no substitute 'keeper on the bench - central defender Jagielka filled the void.
As the Gunners pushed forward for an equaliser, Jagielka's stint in goal will forever be remembered for a stunning tip over the crossbar from a close range Robin van Persie effort.
3. Rio Ferdinand
En route to winning the 2008 FA Cup, Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth side had to overcome Manchester United at Old Trafford in the quarter-final.
And they did so in bizarre circumstances. After Pompey striker Milan Baros was brought down by United's substitute 'keeper Tomasz Kuszczak, legendary centre-back Rio Ferdinand took over to face to resulting penalty.
Despite his best efforts, Ferdinand could do little to stop Sulley Muntari's emphatic spot-kick as United crashed out of the FA Cup.
2. Harry Kane
As a striker, Harry Kane certainly finds himself at the right end of the pitch to know a thing or two about goalies.
And if there was ever a game to prove it, look no further than this Europa League group stage clash between Spurs and Asteras Tripolis in October 2014.
Kane had already hit a hat-trick at the other end by the time he replaced the dismissed Hugo Lloris, where a comical effort at saving a tame long-range strike resulted in the ball rolling underneath the Englishman and trickling over the line.
1. Dani Alves
And finally onto Tuesday night's action in France.
With PSG having used all their allocated substitutes by the time German shot-stopper Kevin Trapp got himself sent off, Dani Alves put on the gloves to aid the French champions in a 4-1 win which booked their place into the last eight.
Whilst I'm sure Alves will be quick to add he kept a clean sheet, something about that goalkeeping jersey on him doesn't look quite right.
