Lincoln City goalkeeper Paul Farman has probably still got his head in his hands 48 hours after his costly kick-up cock-up cost his side a victory away to Altrincham in the National League.

A 3-3 thriller would normally occasion the forward players commanding headlines come Monday. But 25-year-old Farman has ensured this match will now only ever be remembered for the turn of skill-gone-wrong that led to Alty's equaliser - the final goal of the game.

With a Lincoln midfielder working his way out of a tight spot in the middle by playing a simple backpass to his goalkeeper, Farman proceeded to take one, two, perhaps even three too many touches as Altrincham's Damian Reeves bore down on his goal.

The big-boot clearance came too late, slamming into the side of Reeves and rebounding into the unguarded net to make the score 3-3.

Although Lincoln currently sit just three points off the play-off places, the Imps have played more games than anyone else ahead of them.

The game away to bottom-half Altrincham was an opportunity to put pressure on other play-off contenders, but Lincoln could now be left a significant distance adrift once other teams begin to sift through their fixture backlog.

Farman has been ever-present in the Imps' side this season and has apologised, acknowledging his error cost his team the three points.

After the match, Lincoln manager Chris Moyses told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We're very disappointed that we've not come away with all three points today.

"We felt we'd done enough but a costly error took it the other way."
