It's the first time Tonight Show host Fallon has hosted the Golden Globes, that has long been the domain of British comic Ricky Gervais.
And the SNL alum got off to a rocky start after his teleprompter failed at the start of the live telecast from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills Sunday night.
Ironically, he ended the five minute pre-taped opener discussing how nervous he was about the hosting gig with Justin Timberlake before running through the stage door into the star-studded ballroom.

Lost for words: 'I could do impressions,' the visibly flustered Tonight Show host suggested to the audience before asking, 'What do we do now?'
'Already the teleprompter's down so this is a great way to start the show,' a visibly flustered Fallon stated.
'I could do impressions,' he suggested as he stood on stage without his rehearsed lines.
'What do we do here?' he asked.
He then acknowledged that inadvertently he'd already given social media it's 'Golden Globes moment.'
'It's already a GIF,' he joked.
Once the show got going, it didn't take long for the comedian to deliver his first Donald Trump joke of the night, quickly followed by a second one

Fallon then followed up with a reference to Game Of Thrones and the upcoming Trump Inauguration.
'A lot of people are wondering what it would have been like if King Joffrey had lived. Well, in 12 days we're going to find out,' said Fallon of the president-elect.
Fallon opened the telecast with a pre-taped skit parodying top nominated film La La Land and its freeway jam scene
Suddenly music and dancing broke out among the stopped limousines
Fallon was joined in the song and dance routine by Amy Adams and some people in orange hazmat suits from her movie Arrival
He opened the show with a parody of La La Land, that earned seven nominations including Best Actor and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
Directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land opens with a show-stopping number in the middle of a Los Angeles freeway set to the original song Another Day of Sun.
In the parody, Fallon was stopped in limousine gridlock on the way to the Golden Globes.
Exiting the sedan, he starts singing and is joined by several celebrities also stuck in the traffic jam including Nicole Kidman and Amy Adams.
Up ahead a white Ford Bronco is blocking the traffic lanesthanks to The People v. O.J. Simpson star Sarah Paulson.
