It's the first time Tonight Show host Fallon has hosted the Golden Globes, that has long been the domain of British comic Ricky Gervais.

And the SNL alum got off to a rocky start after his teleprompter failed at the start of the live telecast from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills Sunday night.

Ironically, he ended the five minute pre-taped opener discussing how nervous he was about the hosting gig with Justin Timberlake before running through the stage door into the star-studded ballroom.

He opened the show with a parody of La La Land, that earned seven nominations including Best Actor and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land opens with a show-stopping number in the middle of a Los Angeles freeway set to the original song Another Day of Sun.

In the parody, Fallon was stopped in limousine gridlock on the way to the Golden Globes.

Exiting the sedan, he starts singing and is joined by several celebrities also stuck in the traffic jam including Nicole Kidman and Amy Adams.

Up ahead a white Ford Bronco is blocking the traffic lanesthanks to The People v. O.J. Simpson star Sarah Paulson.
