Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has dismissed police allegations of sponsoring and arming political thugs within the state.
The governor was responding to an assertion by the Nigeria Police accusing him of sponsoring political thugs allegedly linked to the Offa Armed Robbery incident, that claimed over 30 lives.
In an assertion by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Muyideen Akorede, the governor urged the police to finish their investigations and cost the suspects to courtroom quickly in step with the dictates of the rule of regulation.
The statements reads partly: “To set the information straight, the Kwara State Government has a well-known empowerment scheme underneath the Small And Medium Enterprises platform which is used to maneuver girls and youths teams into entrepreneurship. Consequently, a number of youth and ladies teams have benefitted from the scheme up to now. However, at no level did the Kwara State authorities instantly present funds to any group often called Good Boys for any goal.
“Similarly, if any of the beneficiaries selected to make use of the SME credit score secured from the federal government to buy a car which was then alleged to have been used for an act of criminality, the Kwara State Governor and certainly the state authorities can't be held responsible for such actions since neither had prior data of such intentions on beneficiaries’ half.
“The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed additionally rejects the police allegation of arming and funding the suspects for political thuggery or for some other exercise as false and unfounded as thuggery or some other type of criminality is neither inspired nor supported by the state authorities or its brokers.
“While refuting the alleged indictment, therefore, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed expresses the hope that the police will soon complete its investigations and charge the suspects to court in line with rule of law.”
