The governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has advocated the preservation and propagation of culture and tradition of the Nigerian people.
He stated this yesterday (26/09/15) when he paid a visit to his great maternal root in Ijebuland in Ogun State as a special guest of honour during the annual Ojude Oba festival, a statement by his media aide, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, stated on today.
Dickson lauded the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, for preserving and propagating the age long culture and tradition of the people of Ijebuland.
The Governor commended the Oba and the people of Ijebu for using their culture as a rallying point for sons and daughters of the land at home and abroad and also as a unifying factor for Nigerians and even non-Nigerians.
He expressed satisfaction with the wide acceptance of the ideals of the festival by the people, noting that it had been made possible by the leadership style of the Awujale.
He stated the Awujale had continued to demonstrate deep-rooted love and appreciation for the culture and tradition of the land.
Dickson said, “May I also express gratitude to the Awujale, the chiefs and people of Ijebuland for the invitation extended to me to participate in the Ojude Oba festival.
“The honour will also strengthen the already existing bond of unity between the people of Bayelsa and Ogun states as well as the Ijaw and the Yoruba of the South-West.”
Dickson, who identified himself with his great maternal root, remarked that he would always identify with the people of Ijebuland and continue to play his roles as a bridge builder and source of unity amongst the various ethnic divides of the country.
