The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is chasing shadows by accusing it (APC) of being behind the invasion of the Akwa Ibom State Government House.

The APC National Vice-Chairman (South-South), Mr. Hilliard Eta, stated the attack on the party by the PDP was misplaced.

In a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday, Eta denied the allegation by the PDP that the party was influencing security agencies in the discharge of their duties.

He said, “It is unfortunate that the PDP, instead of hiding its face in shame following the unfettered corruption, criminality and impunity which it worshipped and celebrated like a deity from its heydays up till now, has the effrontery to attack the harbingers of change and reforms in a bid to divert attention from the criminal tendencies that characterised its activities at the Akwa Ibom State Government House," the statement stated.

“This might have informed the current investigation by security personnel. Nigerians will not be hoodwinked into taking sides nor sympathise with it (the PDP) on corruption. They know that the PDP is only chasing shadows instead of facing the reality of the situation it has found itself.”

Eta maintained that the PDP acting national chairman’s (Uche Secondus) allegations might have been done out of ignorance.

He noted that he was sure that if the Department of State Service (DSS) makes public its findings on the probe of the Akwa Ibom Government House, Secondus would have to apologise.

Eta appealed to Akwa Ibom people to discountece the PDP’s wailings and stick with the APC to ensure the progress of the state.

Secondus, who was in Uyo last week for a stakeholders meeting of the PDP, accused the APC of plotting to forcefully take over the state from his party through coercion as reflected in the recent invasion of the Akwa Ibom Government House by the operatives of the DSS.
