The waste-to-wealth programme of the Federal Government will soon receive a boost in Cross River, as the state partners the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Council of Entrepreneurs for Africa (COEFA).
This was disclosed on Monday at the technical session of the participants held in Calabar by representatives of the ministry, COEFA, steering committee of the state ministry of environment and the University of Calabar.
Under the pilot scheme, the programme would seek to use appropriate technologies for a period of five years.
The Director, Environment and Waste in the Federal Ministry of Environment Dr. Peter Ekeweozoh said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has been signed by the stakeholders to this effect.
The project is at the instance of the governor Ben Ayade. Ekweozoh added that the programme is not just aimed at “turning waste-to wealth, but to have a sustainable clean environment and development in every aspect of the nation’s economic sector.”
He expressed optimism that the outcome of their visit and interaction will be fruitful to all the partners and the country as a whole as they start the pilot scheme.
COEFA’s representative Dr. Sandra Ireakazi said it was a highly skilled corporate professionals, whose mandate is to facilitate transformation and development of Africa, work in all sectors, initiate processes from top down, harness positive policies, make it meaningful and link Africa to other parts of the world.
