Junior commerce minister Greg Hands has resigned from the federal government to oppose expansion of Heathrow Airport.
The vote on whether or not to construct a third runway on the airport west of London, is because of be held on Monday.
Mr Hands, who represents the Chelsea and Fulham constituency in London, mentioned he had pledged to oppose the brand new runway on the 2017 election.
It had been thought that ministers with constituencies straight affected might have been allowed to overlook the vote.

The highest profile opponent of Heathrow expansion within the cupboard is Boris Johnson, the overseas secretary, who as soon as pledged to lie down in entrance of bulldozers to cease it taking place.
But Mr Johnson is scheduled to be out of the UK on Monday so is not going to be attending the vote within the House of Commons.
Labour can also be divided on the controversial subject, with members of the management such as shadow chancellor John McDonnell opposed, however excessive profile union backers in favour. The party's MPs are being allowed to vote nonetheless they need to on the difficulty.
