The Germany international has damaged cruciate knee ligaments and will be operated on in Barcelona in the coming days
Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has posted an inspirational quote from a Rocky film following confirmation he will miss the rest of the season with cruciate knee ligament damage. Gundogan collided with Nordin Amrabat during City's midweek victory against Watford and attempted to play on for nearly 10 minutes before giving up and leaving the pitch in tears. Tests on Thursday and Friday have confirmed that he has suffered damaged cruciate ligaments in the same knee he discloated back in May, when he was still with Borussia Dortmund. City are expecting the midfielder to miss roughly six months of action, meaning he will be aiming to work his way back into the squad for the start of the 2017-18 campaign. The midfielder posted a quote from the 2006 film 'Rocky Balboa' on his Twitter page as the news was confirmed.

Gundogan will travel to Barcelona in the coming days to be operated on at Dr. Ramon Cugat's clinic. City's medical team are working closely with Cugat and his staff this season; Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany and Fabian Delph have all been treated in Catalunya. - _Goal_
