All is set for the fifth edition of Luxor African film festival organised by Independent Shabab Foundation, a civil and non-profit organization which is in partnership with the cultural development fund and other entities in Egypt.
It would be recalled that award winning filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, who won nine awards out of 13 nominations at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards, MVCA, also attended the week long film festival in 2015.
In a statement made available to journalists and signed by the head of press and information, Egypt Embassy, Abuja, Mr Ahmed Maher, the festival was organised under the auspices of significant Egyptian ministries and other organizations.
“Egypt is highly committed to the growth of culture and tourism in Africa. Culture is an effective tool for development if carefully handled. Tourism can contribute to positive developments. It has the potential to promote social development through employment creation, income redistribution and poverty alleviation.
“Travelling brings people into contact with each other and, as tourism has an educational element, it can foster understanding between people and cultures and provide cultural exchange between hosts and guests,” he stated.
He stated Luxor African film festival will screen long and short films produced in African countries, made by African filmmakers and concerned by African subjects.
He disclosed that the festival consists of four competitions, namely: long narratives, long documentaries, short films (narratives and documentaries) and the international competition of freedom films, as well as other special sections.
