Roy Hodgson insists that England will start scoring goals soon after an insipid 0-0 draw with Slovakia saw the Three Lions surrender top spot in Group B to Wales.
The former Fulham manager made six changes to the starting XI that defeated Wales last week, with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane rested and Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge selected.
England struggled to break down a resolute Slovakia side, however, and failed to truly test goalkeeper Matus Kozacik as Wales leapfrogged their neighbours after their 3-0 win over Russia.
England are now set to face the team that finishes second in Group F - opening up the prospect of a clash with Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal - but Hodgson is remaining optimistic, and insists that his attacking players will start firing soon.
"I actually never thought I’d see an England team be able to, in a tournament, dominate three games as much as we’ve done, so that gives me some sort of satisfaction and I’m pretty sure sooner or later we’re going to make somebody pay because if we keep dominating and creating chances like we do, we’re going to score goals one day," the England manager told ITV.
Hodgson also stood by his team selection after also bringing in the likes of Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson and rotating his full-backs.
"If we had won the game people would say we didn't miss them [the players who were left out] and when we don't they say the team selection is wrong, I am used to that one," he added.
"They did fine, you can't do more than dominate as we did. To be frank we put pressure on from the first minute.
"We were creating chances, but we didn't take them. It is a very frustrating 0-0, particularly for the fans. But I believe if we keep working like we are teams will come at us and we will be even more dangerous.
"People were trying to tell me that I should have changed Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane. It was four changes from the side which finished the Wales game. If people are going to pick on one player that's a pity, Jack Wilshere did fine.
"You can't have it all ways. We have players who can do the job."
England will learn the identity of their last-16 opponents on Wednesday when Group F - featuring Hungary, Iceland, Austria and Portugal - concludes.
